long overdue update

It has been 5 years since my last post because I have forgotten about my blog post. It isn't until recently that my friends from SFU and I decide to document our session progress. I am surprised to find my old blog upon logging in, so I have decided to keep it alive again. My friends and I started a blog for learning Gaelic language roughly 2 months ago and it was named "The Warriors of the Gaelic round table" (www.gaelicroundtable.blogspot.com). I am one of the admins who's in charge of posting and organizing the content, while others are in charge of posting as well as editing. It is very rewarding to be part of this project because it allows me to apply my learning from Linguistics as well as my experience in simple HTML coding. I hope to get more people involved in this project in the future, when the club is fully established next term.

I have recently started an exercise program called "Insanity." It is a 2 month fitness program where one exercises at home through watching DVDs. The exercise targets warm-ups, stretches, daily exercise topics (cardio, abs, circuit, etc...), and cool down stretches. It averages from 35~45 minutes per day for the first month. So far, I'm in week 3 and I've gained roughly 3 pounds. Making my average weight 108.2lbs. I am hoping to reach 160lbs by the end of my training, but I need to pick up the game and start eating properly and exercise rigorously in order to achieve that goal. Scrawny to Brawny, here we go :)

I have to admit that cooking isn't my talent. But once in a while I would crave for Taiwanese food. If you are on the same boat, or just want to try something new, here's a recipes to share.

Taiwanese hot and sour soup (5 estimate serving)

Ingredients:
Tofu - one box or two tubes
Lean meat or Ground meat - 200~350g
Black mushroom - 10 heads
Inoki mushroom - 2~3 packs
Dry black fungus - very little, 10g (for garnishing/texturing purpose)
Carrot - 1 stick (the chubby size ones)

Seasoning:
Dark/Black vinegar
White pepper
Chilly sauce - (substitution)
Parsley - very little (garnishing purpose)
Sesame oil
Salt or Chicken broth
Potato starch - 3 tbls or more

Steps:
1. Rinse and soak the black mushrooms and black fungus in water in separate bowls for 2hrs
2. Boil 3/4 water in a medium size pot
3. Wash and peel and cut carrots into julienne; cut the tofu into small strips or cubes; cut the black mushroom/lean meat into strips; wash the inoki mushrooms if necessary.
4. Add the bowl of mushroom soaked water into the pot for flavoring (optional)
5. Toss the meat into the boiling pot until slight brown and shortly after, the ingredients at medium heat.
6. In a bowl, dissolve the potato starch in water and pour it slowly into the pot after the ingredients are cooked.
7. Add the seasoning to your own liking.

Notes:
1. You can substitute white pepper for chilly sauce for a different kind of spice.
2. Parsley, sesame oil should be added last.
3. Tweak the amount of starch to your liking (the consistency of the soup depends on the amount of starch you have added and also how long you have heated it)

And that's about it for today. I'll try to get some other recipes in the next time.

Composition Concert

Tonight I went to the composition concert at my campus. It is a concert for the composition class.
There were about 13 people in class and each of them presented instruments of their choice. Instruments ranges from piano, clarinet, violin, cello, flute, etc. Personally, piano is my favorite. But sadly, there were not much solos. The over all performance was great and I enjoy the creativity from each composer.

いつかは君の夢も

Fairness

I felt discouraged after reading the comments on my logo that I've posted for competition. It seems like the judges comment differently based on participants' skill level, which I think is not fair because some of the logos are just poorly done in photoshop (grab images and put them in layers.)

I know that my fonts are ugly because my pc regin doesn't allow me to input fancy chinese fonts. On top of this, the open space is my style of art because I like space. As long as title and image is in balance, I'd like to keep the rest clean unless it's part of the requirement. In addition, if you look closely, you can see that there's patches of fade white occupying the open space... so it is not completely empty.

I know that I'm not a professinal artist; hence, I'm not as good as you (the judges) in drawing skills. However, there are 2 things that I'd like to say.... First, this is my first time drawing in photoshop with my MOUSE... Second, it is a wolf-puppy, that's why it doesn't look much like adult wolf.

Souka!

Things rang in today's sermon and I realized that my thoughts have to be re-evaluated. Often time I find myself not willing to get over pasts and allowing them to wound me over and over as I though about them and it's hard not to express hatred for someone who've taken advantages from you.

"Hate the Sin, not the sinner."

It is hard to achineve as a human being, but for what I've observed, I should do my best to achieve it.

Wants to sing 想唱歌

English

Ever since I went out with friends from Douglus College to karaoke, I'm interested in harmony songs from then on. Although I'm not a professional singer and I'd have to tense my vocal cords to accomidate high pitches, it is enjoyable to sing harmony with others. According to Eva, my friend Stevi really sounds like a popular Chinese singer call Stefany Sun. For similarity reguarding to voice mimicing, I'd give her (my friend) 80% because her style is kinda different than Stefany. I'd like to sing harmony with her again if we decide to go to karaoke; however, I'd have to prepare myself before I go.

Recently I've downloaded songs from a Chinese pop girl group call S.H.E. In general, they sounded ok as a group; however, I favour one of the singer call Ela only. I like her not only by appearance, but also her singing style since her voice is the richest among the group. I've like rich voice singers ever since I encounter (as listened to) a Japanese singer call Misia, and from then on, I've found other singers such as Nakashima Mika, and Onitsuka Chiniro.

自從上次與DC的朋友們一起去唱過K後
最近一直對合聲的曲子很感興趣
雖然說我並不是什麼一流的歌手
而且時常要拉嗓子去唱女生的聲部
But, I enjoy it.

Laziness

Don't know what to say... but that's what I am doing ... being lazy. Hard to focus on works, whether from school or from personal interest. Perhaps there's a way to escape life. Not for long, but momentarily.
